Teaching is not just a profession....it's a PASSION Teaching Philosophy
"If we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of tomorrow"
- John Dewey. As a teacher I always aspire to nurture and educate my students to become lifelong learners. I believe our role as educators goes beyond transmitting knowledge – our role is to nurture our students to become lifelong learners – to teach them the skills of 'learn how to learn' and to teach them the appreciation and the love for knowledge. As Socrates said, "I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think". I believe that teaching is an exciting adventure in which both the teacher and the students participate and cooperate to achieve a common goal. I view teaching as a vital and enriching part of my job. Therefore, I am dedicated to continuing to explore innovative ways of enriching the teaching of my students both in terms of pedagogy and content. I regularly review my teaching practices and experiment with creative techniques and new ideas. I continue to make changes to my courses every time I teach them, for I believe that we never really get it just right. I am very committed to providing a learning environment that is both exciting and rigorous, one that empowers both student and teacher in pursuing learning. I strive to create a classroom environment that is flexible enough to accommodate my students’ needs, and I have found that technology, especially computer-mediated communication, can be a valuable tool in creating this environment. I am a proponent of using technology to enhance effectiveness of my teaching. In this regard, I have developed an E-learning portal and Virtual Library to help students with the course. On-line discussions allow students who are not comfortable with voicing their opinions orally in the classroom to think through their responses and contribute to the conversation while also providing practice with written communication in English (I encourage them to write in English). While there are important issues to consider when integrating technology in the classroom (see my e-learning blog: http://onestoplearning.blogspot.com/), I firmly believe that the use of an e-learning portal provides new learning experience for the students. |
